The Karpinsky Institute and the Committee for Nature Use of St. Petersburg signed a cooperation agreement


On 28 March 2024, within the framework of the XXIII International Forum “Ecology of Big City,” the Karpinsky Institute and the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection, and Ecological Safety of St. Petersburg signed a cooperation agreement.

The document was signed by Alexander German, Chair of the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection, and Ecological Safety and Maxim Tkachenko, First Deputy Director General of the Karpinsky Institute.

The agreement provides for the expansion and strengthening of interaction between the Institute and the Committee in the field of scientific research, exchange of experience in geological investigations, environmental protection, and rational use of natural resources. In particular, the document is aimed at cooperation in the following areas:
- creation of a 3D model of the geological structure of St. Petersburg for sustainable development of the underground space of the city
- geological and geophysical investigations of the coastal zone, including comprehensive scientific and monitoring studies of the condition and dynamics of the coast; hazardous exogenous geological processes in the coastal zone; development of general coastal protection systems of St. Petersburg
- development of methodological approaches and assessment of integrated geological and environmental risks for urbanized areas of St. Petersburg - assessment of climatic parameters of climate change and their possible impact on geological and environmental processes in the built-up areas of St. Petersburg
- expert assessment of the negative impact of projects on the condition of the coastal zone (capital construction projects, landscaping, etc.).
